Get the Digital Blue QX5 Microscope Software ISO for Free

During periods of inactivity, the tutorial launches a screen saver that bounces the image from the Live View screen around the small computer monitor. The actual QX3 microscope software takes control of the computer video drivers and deactivates any screen savers during operation.

The applet first loads a splash screen while the images are being downloaded from the server. When download is complete, the software initializes the microscope's default setting of top light activated and 50-percent intensity on the illumination slider. The Live View screen appears white due to reflected light from the diffusion screen of the microscope. Use the green arrow button to choose a sample from the pull-down menu. When a sample is selected, it will appear in the microscope Live View screen at 10x magnification, the microscope's default. Use the green magnification ring to select a new magnification. If the specimen appears dark and will not respond to the intensity slider, change lamps. The samples in menu #3 load by default, and additional samples can be selected from menus #1 and #2. Use the Snapshot button or the small green button at the top of the microscope to capture a digital image.

After reading Keith Peter's USB microscope posts, I was inspired to interrogate the world around me with fresh eyes. Also, I wanted so badly to get my hands on one of those wonderful toys and spark my 2 year old son's interest in naturalism, transforming him instantly into a mini-Darwin. Well, the best laid plans of mice and fathers being what they are, those ideas were quickly overtaken by the kudzu of daily chores and appointments. That is until one day, when strolling through the aisles of a local Goodwill, I came across a colorful USB kids' microscope in what looked like pretty good shape. I really liked the retro design and sturdy, easy-to-use controls(well, it was made for 8 year-olds). Jackpot! I took it home for $2.97 and quickly discovered why it was abandoned: it had been obsolete for over half a decade. The microscope in question was an Intel Play QX3, and it had gone out of production in 2002 or so. After following online advice, I went through the steps to download the necessary software and drivers, but still got the a bunch of fatal errors:

Digital Blue QX3+ Computer Microscope. Get children and adults to play the smart way with the QX3+ USB Computer Microscope. The QX3 + microscope magnifies anything from 10x all the way to 200x. You can view everything from the pre-prepared slide of a honeybee leg to a close up of your own tongue. Digital Blue recently acquired the entire Intel "Play Product" line. This microscope is from the new Digital Blue Microscope line. It is the same microscope and technology as the Intel and Mattel line. The QX3+ is not only a microscope though, it also serves as a multi-function digital camera for taking digital still images and creating time-lapse movies. The QX3 also includes photo manipulation software that allows them to create and experiment with special effects and audio effects, which can all be inserted into the same images taken with the QX3. The QX3 microscope is a great item for any child or adult with an imagination, and will keep them happy for a long time to come!

Electrical power for the camera system and specimen illumination lamps is obtained from the computer through the Universal Serial Bus (USB) port. Information and control commands are also passed between the computer and the microscope using this pathway. The accompanying software package provides an interface that is very nicely done with excellent graphics and audio clips that are presented through a kid-friendly layout. Students are able to capture single images, make movies, and perform time-lapse investigations on a variety of specimens with a single click of the mouse. Much More Than Just SlidesThe most impressive thing about this microscope is the fact you can take it out of its slide-viewing cradle. As long as it's still plugged into the computer, you can magnify anything with it: the hairs on your arm, your eyeball, flowers, or even the hidden microscopic text on money. While it is harder to focus using the microscope in handheld mode, it allows children to interact with a moving and alive world, rather than the pre-prepared, dead, flat world of the traditional microscope.

Movies of the Microscopic Another killer feature of the microscope is that it's not just a stills camera, it's a movie camera too. Carpet fly-overs, centipede's leg articulation or flies digesting their food can all be captured. You can even create a time-lapse movie. Photographing a sprouting seed over hours and then playing the images back as a movie is an amazing leap forward from the static view of a traditional microscope. Image Capture and EditingWith the CD-ROM software included with QX3 Computer Microscope you can capture images and manipulate them with simplified, but still very useful paint tools and special effects (including fly-eye, kaleidoscope and atomic glow). If this pretty versatile array of image manipulating tools isn't enough you can even import or export your captured images to other programs.

It is an easy-to-use digital video camera and movie-making software package that allows children and adults to use the PC to script and star in their own feature movies. Digital Movie Creator invites children and adults to direct, film, star in and edit their own movies - all with the power of their PCs. This is the all new Digital Movie Creator version 2.0

Capture nature at its best with our binocular and digital camera combination. The software lets you change scenes, add animation and music, sound effects, and even titles. The unique hardware allows your field binoculars to catch and save your outdoor experiences as it doubles as a digital camera with the touch of a button.

Time Digital, October 2000 "You speak into a funky blue microphone, load the recordings into the computer, add kooky sound effects and synch the voice to animations that come with the software. So the next time you scream 'Go to your room!' at your kid, the child can record it ..., shoot the sound file into the computer, put your words in the mouth of an ogre and e-mail it off to his grandparents."

The all new version 2.0 Digital Movie Creator is an easy-to-use digital video camera and movie-making software package that allows children and adults to use the PC to script and star in their own feature movies. Digital Movie Creator invites children and adults to direct, film, star in and edit their own movies - all with the power of their PCs. Digital Movie Creator Features:

Direct a few movies, take some pictures, e-mail at will. Digital Movie Creator provides all of the functions you need in a device that's as portable and easy to handle. On the road, record up to four minutes of video and audio before downloading to your hard drive; at your PC, keep on filming or snapping away until your hard drive runs out of space. Digital Movie Creator imports AVI video files, JPG and BMP image files and WAV audio files, and exports AVI, WMV, JPG and BMP files. Camera: The camera is easy to hold in little hands, and operation is simple: You hold down the button and record away. There is an LCD screen that indicates how many scenes were created, and gives some indication of how much space is left. The camera has a timer mode, so you can start the recording on a delay -- which gives the camera operator the chance to step into shots. It can store up to four minutes of video that can be downloaded to a PC using the included cradle connected to the computer through a USB port. Aside from video, the camera can shoot still photographs and record sound using a built-in microphone. Software:On the software side, Digital Movie Creator is a real blast. Every button and mouse click results in some kind of tactile feedback with sound, so you'll always know your clicks are productive. Getting the footage you shot into the computer is a snap -- one click, actually -- and the software ships with a myriad of stock footage to spice up your films.

You can quickly add text, sound effects, transitions, even music using the drag-and-drop interface. The software is simple. There's no need to learn time codes (or even know what they are) and no complicated menus -- everything is drag and drop. When you're all done with your creation, you can view it in the Movie Creator Theatre, complete with a big screen and heads down in front. There's even a countdown like those on old movie reels. If you're pleased with your film, simply export it as an AVI file, and share it with friends. Includes: Digital Movie Creator Computer Video Camera with Built-in Microphone Editing Software and activity guide on CD-ROM Camera Base for file download that doubles as Camera Stand Wrist Strap USB Cable
